The Reception children at Orsett Church of England Primary School have recently been learning all about different job roles and how they help local communities, including lifeguards, vets and firefighters.
To give the children the opportunity to understand more about the ins and outs of each important role, the school arranged for members of the local community to visit the classes and share their experiences in that particular job.
The visits started with a special talk from one of the school’s own parents, who has been working as a nurse for many years. Classes were taught what number to call in an emergency and how to carry out basic first aid, including putting an arm into a sling and how to place someone in the recovery position. The children had lots of interesting questions to ask about the job and were even inspired to create their own school hospital where they all became nurses for the day!
The school was also visited by officers from the local Police Station, who brought along their police car and specially trained police dog. Throughout the visit, the officers spoke to the children about how they help members of the public and the importance of protecting the local community. The children were set the challenge of learning their home addresses in case of an emergency, before being invited to try on the distinctive police uniform and take a look inside the police car.
It was wonderful to see all the children getting involved with these special visits from important workers in the community and jumping into each activity with excitement and enthusiasm – well done!
