Staff and children at St Cedd’s Church of England Primary School have been doing some incredible fundraising recently in aid of Cancer Research after the tragic news that one of the school’s staff members had been diagnosed with throat cancer.
To raise money for the charity and show its support for the member of staff, the whole school signed up to complete the Race for Life. At the end of June, teachers and children ran, skipped, jogged and walked laps of the local field and managed to raise an amazing £1,254 with £273 in Gift Aid!
Both the children and their teachers worked as a team and supported each other throughout the race, persevering and keeping a smile on their faces throughout the event despite the very warm weather. With parents and carers cheering them on, everyone finished the race and was awarded a Race for Life medal to acknowledge their remarkable achievement.
Mrs Wood, Headteacher at St Cedd’s, said; “It was a real shock when we found out that a member of our team had been diagnosed with throat cancer. It has been incredibly hard watching our colleague and friend battle this awful disease, so we decided to do something in support”.
It was very moving to see the school community come together to raise money for such an important cause.
